Welcome to Horizon Elementary!
School Hours:
Regular School Days:
7:55-2:05
Early Release Days:
7:55-1:05
The first bell is 7:50, at which time students are admitted into the classroom. When the 2nd bell rings, 7:55, your child should be in the classroom. IF you arrive on campus after 7:55--or if your child arrives at the classroom door after the second bell rings, they will be required to walk to the office to get a late pass. I cannot allow the student into the classroom after the second bell without a tardy slip.
Snacks:
Students have informed me that their stomachs are eating into their backbones! So we will do class snack time approximately 9:30. Please send in a snack for your child each day! I do try to keep some snacks on hand, but I have forgotten to stop by the store before or have had snacks that weren't preferred! If you would like to send a bottle of water in with your child each day, I don't mind them having water at their desk--as long as the water bottle does not become a distraction.
Before and After School Procedures
Before school--parents may walk students to center part of the campus or to the classroom door. Horizon policy is that we do not open the classroom doors prior to 7:50. I'm sure this will be flexible the first few weeks of school.
After school--The campus is closed, meaning parents may not walk on campus to pick up their student. Students are dismissed by pod. I will be walking the students in my pod to parent pick-up. The students have assigned areas in parent pick-up designated by grade level. Another teacher in my pod will be walking the extended day students to extended day, and there will be a teacher walking the bus students to the bus loop and for the after-school vans, day care vans, etc another teacher walks those students to the designated area in the bus loop for the vans.
Volunteers:
Kathy MacFadden in the front office is the volunteer coordinator. Please remember, in order to volunteer at any time on campus or for any school field trip you must have an approved volunteer application on file. I will have applications in the classroom if you need one or you can see Ms. MacFadden in the front office.
Please remember for the safety and security of all students, you must sign in with the front office before going anywhere on campus. Even if you are 'just running a forgotten item to the class' you must sign in!
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
My planning time is 8:55-9:30 on non early release days and 8:50-9:20 on early release days. I understand these times might be difficult for conferences. I will make myself available before school any day and after school on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays--Tuesdays and Wednesdays are reserved for staff and grade level meetings.
